Corps of Drums

The Corps of Drums as is seen today evolved as a result of an amalgamation on 1st July 1999 between the 3rd Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers (Volunteers) and the 2nd Batalion Royal Regiment of Wales (Volunteers).
The Corps is split into a North/South divide with both retaining their own 'old' Regimental cap badges. Comparing headdress can easily identify this divide - black for RWF and white for RRW. You may also notice the Ceremonial Pioneers with their white aprons, which along with the Regimental Goats, accompany the Corps of Drums on Ceremonial occasions.
Sergeant (Drum Major) Ian Simon controls the North with Sergeant (Drum Major) Andy Jones running the Southern element. The Corps can amass 20+ members when all fully 'available'.
Both Corps in their previous lives have performed at various Military Tattoos, State functions and numerous Military and Civilian events, both home and abroad.
Tours to places such as Canada, Belgium, Holland and the Isle of Man have been common place and are likely to remain so in the future.
They have been involved in events such as the Rugby Union World Cup and continue to play at Wales' home rugby matches in the Millenium Stadium.
Their future bodes well with regular engagements such as the Royal Welsh Argricultural Show, Millenium Stadium Rugby & Football matches, one off engagements throughout the U.K. and their normal Regimental duties.
As mentioned earlier and which may have been confusing, was the word 'available'. All members are in full time employment, as Long distance lorry drivers, factory workers, a civil servant to a solicitor, they all have to juggle their 'day' jobs with their committment to the T.A.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Corps, or know of someone who may be interested, please visit the 'Contact the Band' section to see how to get in contact.
