Band Feature on new Katherine Jenkins Single

greengreengrass On 4th November, the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh accompanied singer Katherine Jenkins on a track for her new single, 'Green Green Grass of Home'...backed by 75,000 rugby fans in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

The recording took place before the Wales v. Australia match, and is Track 2 on her single that is released today. The other tracks are a studio version of the song, and also 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'.

Band Record for S4C Broadcast

dcdc On Saturday 7th October the Band recorded a special edition of the S4C television programme Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol ('Begin to Sing, Begin to Praise') for the Remembrance Sunday service.

Band Feature on NSPCC Full Stop Campaign CD

nspcc On Monday 30th October, a CD produced in aid of children's charity, NSPCC Cymru/Wales will be released in a bid to inspire Welsh rugby fans to lead our boys to victory during this year's autumn international series. The release coincides with the start of the series which kicks off next month - 4th November with Wales v Australia at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, which the Band will be performing at.

The WRU and Sain (Recordiau) Cyf - Wales, have collaborated to produce the special edition CD which features the Welsh National Anthem recorded during last year's autumn international series and features Welsh stars Katherine Jenkins, Bryn Terfel and Aled Jones accompanied by the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh.

The CD will be available in well known record stores across Wales, at the Millennium Stadium shop, and during the autumn international matches next month. You can listen to an extract of the Band performing the anthem on the CD by clicking here


Gwent Cadet Band Open Day

standard The Regimental Band of The Royal Welsh is aiming to start a Cadet Band and Drums for 11-15 year-olds in Gwent. If you have any children who may be interested in joining the Band, there will be an 'open day' on Saturday 21st October.

Ex Bandmaster Receives MBE

BM The ex Bandmaster, WO1 Phil Coomer, has been appointed to the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, and awarded an MBE.

Over 130 Service personnel, along with many civilians in defence, were recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list which was released on 17th June; Her Majesty The Queen's 80th birthday. However, WO1 Coomer was the only person from The Royal Welsh Territorial Army to receive an award.

All members of the Band, and those associated with it, send Mr Coomer our congratulations at achieving this prestigious award.

Mr Coomer retired from the Band in June 2006.


Band Return from Camp 2006

camp On 21st June the Band returned from RAF Uxbridge after completing their 6-day camp.

The first week of this year's camp was spent rehearsing for the 160BDE Beating Retreat in Brecon on 22 June. The band were fortunate to use the excellent facilities of the RAF Central Band at the Headquarters in Uxbridge for what was a very successful week in which the band achieved a high musical standard with a high degree of enjoyment.

School Children Join Band

school Whilst rehearsing for a Beating Retreat in Brecon, the Band were watched by children from Cilffriw Primary School in Neath who were visiting the South Wales Borderers Museum at the Barracks.

Noting the keen interest of the group, the children were invited to join in with a march, and photos of this can be seen here.


Band Members carry on medals at FA Cup Final

cupfinal The two female members of the Band have been chosen to carry on the medals for the match officials and teams, which will be presented by Prince William in his capacity as the new President of The Football Association.

This is a particular honour for the band members, as the match will be the last time the FA Cup Final is held in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, before it moves to the new Wembley Stadium in London.


Ex-Member Reunion
