Band rehearse with 'Codi Canu' choirs
Posted: 14:33 19/02/07
codicanu.jpg On 15th February the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh travelled to the Gnoll Rugby Ground in Neath to rehearse with the 'Codi Canu' choirs.

Four brand new mixed choirs have been formed to compete for the honour of singing the Welsh National Anthem, accompanied by the Band, on the Millennium Stadium pitch before the Wales v England Six Nations match in March 2007. Although the venue for the rehearsal wasn't quite the same to the Millennium Stadium, it provided a very useful run-through of how things are going to work on the big day.

This however, was not the first time the Band has been involved in the 'Codi Canu' experience - on 21st October last year the Band met the Dragons' Choir at the Chepstow Racecourse.

The Band wish all choirs the best of luck in the competition, and look forward to seeing them in the Millennium Stadium on 17th March!

COcrop.jpg HM The Queen has awarded the ex Commanding Officer of the 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh, Lieutenant Colonel Dickie Davis MBE, an OBE on the New Years Honours List 2007.

Colonel Davis (pictured left) has been appointed to the Officer Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Congratulating all recipients, the Defence Secretary Des Browne said:

"It has been another exceptionally busy year for defence, and I am delighted to see so many of our armed forces and civilian staff getting their due recognition from Her Majesty today. Since I arrived in the spring, the commitment and hard work of all those involved in defence has never ceased to amaze and inspire me. They deserve to be honoured and I congratulate them all."

The Bandmaster and all the Regimental Band of the Royal Welsh pass on the warmest of congratulations to Colonel Davis, and hope to see him soon.
